Maintenance

All playground equipment and playground safety surfacing will go through wear and tear over time. General wear and tear on playgrounds resulting from use and weather will eventually require maintenance. It is vital to maintain playground equipment and safety surfacing so that it is kept in optimum condition and service ensuring that it continues to meet playground safety standards.  Our staff, consultants and playground installers are certified playground safety inspectors (CPSI) and are available to help you with an effective playground maintenance program.

It is important to conduct periodic safety and maintenance inspection on your playgrounds and should generally include at minimum the following points:

  1. Appropriate impact attenuating safety surfacing material must be maintained under and around all playground equipment.
  2. Check, replace and/or tighten all bolts, hardware, and fittings.
  3. Replace any moving parts such as ropes, chains, swing hangers, s hooks, swivels, etc. if showing excessive wear or damage.
  4. Lubricate or grease fittings, swivels and bearings on a regular basis.
  5. Follow all maintenance and safety guidelines as set forth by the equipment manufacturers.

Besides the periodic inspection it is also important to frequently check the playground area to ensure there are no broken glass pieces, hazardous trash, presence of animal waste, etc.  Playgrounds should be cleaned and sanitized regularly to create a hygienic area of play for the children.

Broken playground equipment should be put out of service until the component can be replaced, repaired or permanently removed from the site.
